DOG DAY AFTERNOON [1975]

A man robs a bank to pay for his lover’s operation; it turns into a hostage situation and a media circus.

Director: Sidney Lumet

Writers: Frank Pierson (screenplay), P.F. Kluge

Stars: Al Pacino, John Cazale & Penelope Allen

Sidney Lumet’s lively, intense, and surprisingly funny crime story based on true events. Set in Brooklyn, it features Al Pacino in an outstanding role as an inexperienced bank robber, whose attempt to steal funds from a local bank turn into a dramatic turn of events, a media frenzy and a revelation of his real motivations for the crime. This film was the top-rated film choice in Twickenham Cinema Club’s recent Film Vote from a shortlist of 10 classic films.
