Token Man Comedy (LINE-UP UPDATE)

Token Man Comedy is a fantastic comedy night at The Exchange which always seeks to feature women comedians as well as including a ‘Token Man’ in the line-up.

We present the best in female comedy and female comedians but because we think it’s important to be inclusive, we always have a chap on the bill and he’s always one of the good ones so fear not!

Reversing the zeitgeist of the traditional, box ticking girl, on most traditional comedy nights or game show panels, we thought it would be fun to see how it works the other way round.

Line-up:

Due to unforeseen circumstances Suzi Ruffell will no longer be headlining this Token Man Comedy*

Headliner – Laura Lexx

Live at the Apollo comedian Laura has gigged at comedy clubs and festivals all over the UK and around the world as well as providing tour support for Jason Manford, Tim Vine and Russell Kane.

Laura’s credits also include BBC At The Edinburgh Festivals (BBC Two), Hypothetical (Dave), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Susan Calman’s Fringe Benefits (BBC Scotland/BBC Four), 4 Extra Stands Up (BBC Radio 4 Extra), The Comedy Club (BBC Radio 4 Extra), Breaking The News (BBC Radio Scotland) and The Jason Manford Show (Absolute Radio).

Laura won Best Performer in the Comedian’s Choice Awards at the 2018 and 2019 Edinburgh Fringe. She was also named in the Top 10 of Dave’s Funniest Joke of the Fringe in 2018 and her solo show Trying transferred to the Soho Theatre in London in 2019.

“a bouncy, bubbly stand-up star” The Telegraph
“real comedic steel” The Guardian

Opening – Kate Lucas

Award winning musical comedian Kate Lucas is known for her razor sharp and deliciously dark songs. She combines catchy melodies with original lyrics to showcase her playfully bitter musings on life. Audiences have come to expect examples of what not to say and how not to behave from this gloriously talented comic.

In 2014 she took home the title for the prestigious Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year and her performances since have been met with huge critical acclaim.

TOKEN MAN – Darren Altman – Impressionist

Darren is a voiceover artist and celebrity impressionist, who reached the live semi finals of Britain’s Got Talent 2016. At the end of his audition, Darren received incredible comments from all 4 judges, who simultaneously rose to their feet and gave him a standing ovation. Their praise was unanimous:

Simon Cowell – “Of all the years we’ve had impressionists on this show, I genuinely think this is the best and most original act we’ve had. Absolutely hilarious Darren, a million percent yes!”

Alesha Dixon – “Very simple, brilliantly funny from start to finish. Every impression was spot on. It was a faultless audition; I’m very excited about you.”

Amanda Holden – “What I loved about this act was that it was really intelligent and different. I loved the way each voice morphed into the next.”

David Walliams – “It was brilliantly funny from start to finish and a lot of those impressions I’ve never heard people do before. I’m excited about what you’re going to do next.”
